Shreyas Iyer escapes a tough catch but loses two balls later as too much drama develops over the course of three deliveries in the IND vs. AUS match

A few days before the ODI World Cup, Shreyas Iyer’s amazing century on Sunday was a huge comfort to Team India. Iyer played with a good attitude and silenced his detractors with a knock that fully supported his selection to the World Cup team.

The slick batsman outclassed Australia’s bowling attack, which was without senior pacers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, by scoring 105 runs off 90 balls.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-201006″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-karishma-mehtas-statement-that-the-humans-of-bombay-concept-came-to-her-out-of-the.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com karishma mehtas statement that the humans of bombay concept came to her out of the” width=”1105″ height=”735″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-karishma-mehtas-statement-that-the-humans-of-bombay-concept-came-to-her-out-of-the.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-karishma-mehtas-statement-that-the-humans-of-bombay-concept-came-to-her-out-of-the-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1105px) 100vw, 1105px” title=”Shreyas Iyer escapes a tough catch but loses two balls later as too much drama develops over the course of three deliveries in the IND vs. AUS match 3″>

Up until the match’s 31st over, which turned out to be a bit of a dramatic one, Iyer seemed to have everything under control.

The flashy batsman reached his century in the 30th over, but after passing the milestone, he seemed a little restless and played a few errant drives in the next over.

On the third delivery of the 31st over, while struggling with hand cramping, he delivered a poor shot straight to bowler Sean Abbott, which somewhat dented his confidence. Abbott diver follows through to his right in an effort to make a catch. Iyer started to go back in the direction of the pavilion, but the umpire requested him to hold off and have the third umpire oversee the catch to make sure the ball didn’t hit the ground.

When the ball reached the ground, Abbott’s hands were above it rather than beneath it, according to the video, which the third umpire reviewed from several angles.

Iyer pulled through and made it back to the middle. To make his intentions known, he hammered a boundary on the very next ball. However, in an effort to play another powerful shot, was eliminated on the fifth ball. This time, Matthew Short took a superb catch at deep mid-wicket while making sure his hands were beneath the ball.

Iyer, who was batting third, found his rhythm by scoring two goals off a lofted cover drive and a wristy clip against Johnson. He then hit three boundaries in his first seven balls with a drive on-the-up against Hazlewood.

In order to score two more goals, he continued by driving Sean Abbott through the defense and edging Carey off Hazlewood.

The 28-year-old’s amazing performance, which included 11 fours and three sixes, was a huge relief for the Indian management before the major ODI World Cup.
