Shabana Azmi raises the Tricolor in celebration of Independence Day in Melbourne

<p>The Indian flag was raised during the Melbourne Indian Film Festival in 2023 by seasoned actress Shabana Azmi.</p>
<p>The participants were deeply moved by the shared feelings of patriotism and solidarity as the Tricolor flapped against the Melbourne cityscape.</p>

<p>Shabana commented on the occasion, saying: “To be having this honor to hoist the Indian flag in Melbourne is an honor I never dreamed I could have. It’s a banner of which I’m very proud, and of which all of us here today are proud.</p>

<p>We are here to celebrate Indian cinema in Melbourne, and I would want to reaffirm that I really think that art transcends all barriers and that film can be a tool for social change.</p>

<p>The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2023 opened on August 11 and runs through August 20. It is still a key venue for promoting the vitality and variety of Indian film on a worldwide scale.</p>

<p>Numerous Indian celebrities were honored at the IFFM 2023 for their contributions.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The top awards of the 14th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) went to Rani Mukerji for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Female) and Vijay Varma for Best Actor in a Series (Male).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>For Mrs. Chatterjee Vs. Norway, Rani won, while Mohit Agarwal won for Agra’s Best Male Performance.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Agra was named the Best Indie Film, Sita Ramam the Best Film, and Kannada filmmaker Prithvi Konanur the Best Director.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The awards for Best Performance (Male) and Best Performance (Female) in a Series went to Vijay Varma for Dahaad and Rajshri Deshpande for Trial By Fire, respectively.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The Best Series award went to the historical drama Jubilee, which starred Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Sidhant Gupta, Aditi Rao Hydari, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ram Kapoor.</p>
